Notre Dame & Christmas Market Walking Tour
During the festive season, the Notre-Dame neighborhood is highlighted with astonishing decorations. In this picturesque walking tour, you will learn about the cathedral’s construction, see the most eye-catching illuminations and browse Notre-Dame’s Christmas market while tasting typical French Christmas products.
Close to the tallest Christmas tree of Paris, meet up with your Welcomer in front of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. The first thing you will notice is its outstanding façade. It is filled with sculptures illustrating acts of the Bible that your Welcomer will tell you all about.
Once inside the cathedral, the stained-glass rose windows will blow you away. Your Welcomer will explain their value and why they are the church’s jewels! The divine crib of the Christ Child is in Notre-Dame’s choir. From December to January, the full history of Jesus Christ can be found, from the Holy Night to the Visit of the Three Kings.
It’s time to cross the river Seine to enter the René-Viviani public garden; the most charming garden of the French capital, usually missed by tourists. An traditional Christmas market will be held in the garden where you’ll go through local arts and crafts stalls and savor few specialties that French families serve on Christmas table: foie gras, dried sausage, famous macaroons or even delightful glazed chestnuts.
In the very same garden, you will be informed about the story of the oldest tree in Paris and walk down few cobblestone streets that will take you back in time. End in a cozy tearoom around a hot chocolate, flavored with spices, or maybe a mulled cinnamon wine, a must-taste for the period of the year.
Is it a visit focused on religion?
As the tour includes a visit of Paris cathedral, you will obviously be told a little bit about religion and spirituality. But you’ll also be told about architecture, history and French food tradition.
Is this a shopping tour?
The market you’ll visit offers shopping opportunities. If you want to purchase few Christmas souvenirs, you can come back after the tour, since the ending point of the tour is very close by.
Is this a food tour?
The tastings and the complimentary drink stand for an afternoon snack, not for a proper lunch or dinner. If you’re interested in a Christmas food tour, have a look at this tour here!
