Does Marie-Antoinette passionate you? Do not look elsewhere! This tour walks you through her major life events in Paris. With Sophie your Welcomer, an ardent French historian, enjoy a mesmerizing walking lecture as she passionately travels you back to the 18th century!

Queen Marie-Antoinette, Louis XVI’s wife and France’s last Queen before the French Revolution, is considered to be the most intriguing character in Versailles’s rich history, but also in Paris. From her youth’s whims to her foolish Opera nights and from her extravagant fashion expenses to her tragic death, it all happened in Paris.

This Marie-Antoinette Walking Tour allows you to saunter the streets of Paris following her footsteps. Discover the places she enjoyed, where she had love affairs and where her detention and death occurred.

When Marie-Antoinette came to France, the people applauded and adored her. She was the future Queen of France! Fireworks, balls were organized. However, the Queen’s frivolous character trait caused her Nation’s hatred towards her.

She was also the Queen of Fashion. As you get to the Palais Royal, witness where she ordered an excessive amount of garments in fashion boutiques and made her jeweler and hairdresser’s fortune.

Another aspect in her life leading the people against her was the controversial relationship with the Swedish Count Axel de Fersen. What better way to hear about this story than in front of the building he lived?

In 1789, Marie-Antoinette had to leave Versailles for Paris. She settled down in the Tuileries Palace. Go on a pleasant wander in the gardens where she walked and stand on the terrace where she publically introduced her young son, the Dauphin, to the Parisians.

Then began the dark years. In 1793, she was imprisoned in the Conciergerie, a medieval jail that exhibits many royal souvenirs. Now a museum, you will learn about the prisoners’ lives under the Revolution and see the location where the Queen was detained, waiting for her trial. Her last personal objects can also be seen there, which could be the most emotional part of your tour.

On Place de la Concorde, Sophie is going to tell you what happened the day Marie-Antoinette was executed. You will then go on the martyred Queen’s tracks, discovering the cemetery where she was buried. You are also going to visit the chapel built to pay tribute to her.

To cheer up your mind after this tragic story, a stop in a brand-new tearoom with a true 18th century-like atmosphere is scheduled. It is your opportunity to taste Marie-Antoinette’s favorite French sweet delights. Sit back, enjoy your snack while exchanging your impressions with Sophie and glean more secret details about this fascinating historical woman!
