This tour takes you in the footsteps of the Queen Marie-Antoinette, where she spent most of her life in France: Versailles. As the Queen of France, she lived in the Great Palace but tried escaping to have her own privacy. Her personal Estate, located behind the foliage of the park, has a name: Trianon. This place is doubtlessly where the French “art de vivre” went to its heyday. Endlessly seeking novelty, refinement and luxury, she led new trends in fashion, furniture and even gastronomy.
You will see the Great Palace of Versailles, where lived three famous French Kings – Louis the 14th, 15th & 16th – and one infamous Queen of France: Marie-Antoinette. The official rooms where she had to endure a public life where harsh critics still display the overwhelming atmosphere she experienced.
To discover the woman behind Marie-Antoinette, you will cross the Versailles gardens towards the Queen’s Estate. Even though she used horse carriages, you will feel exactly like Marie-Antoinette, escaping the rigorous Etiquette of the Court to join the exquisite Trianon and the picturesque Queen’s hamlet. This corner of Versailles Park was the Queen’s true realm, her own property where she could behave like a “simple” lady.
Along the Queen’s Hamlet alleys, you will discover Marie-Antoinette as a landowner, proud to offer her guests fresh milk from her cattle, and fishes from her pond. In such a scenery, the shepherdess Queen forgot she was the Queen – something the people never forgave her for.
On your way back to the city center, you will have a four o’clock pause in a place even Marie-Antoinette wouldn’t have despised. In the cozy atmosphere of the 5-star palace, you will be treated as sovereigns and taste a special beverage created to pay tribute to the magnificent and tragic last Queen of France.
You will be walking in the Palace of Versailles and in the Trianon Estate. The main movements from the Great Palace to the Trianon will me made comfortably with a small local train.
The tour includes the visit of the Palace of Versailles classical tour and the inner visit of the Small Trianon Palace.
